Consilium Cares helps by filling Backpacks

AOTA's National School Backpack Awareness Day: Sept. 16, 2015

On Saturday July 18th, 2015, Consilium Staffing’s family volunteered their time, to help Community Partners of Dallas meet a goal, by filling 950 backpacks with school supplies.  The backpacks will go to abused and neglected children, most of who come from families with an annual income of less than $14,000/yr.  The supplies included 3 ring binders, colored pencils, construction paper, markers, index cards, folders, and much more.

“I’m really glad we decided to work on this project with Community Partners of Dallas,” said Jamie Jones, Event Coordinator for Consilium. “Everything went great and it was really impressive to see everyone come together for such a great cause.”

Working beside volunteers from a number of groups, the goal in the 2 hour timeframe was to fill 950 backpacks. Consilium was responsible for packing 250 backpacks for girls grades 3rd through 6th. We then pitched in to fill the remaining backpacks in less than 2 hours.  CPD will distribute more than 2,500 backpacks full of school supplies as well as new school uniforms to children with open cases with Child Protective Services in Dallas County for the 2015 school year.

“Giving back to the community is a really big component of who we are,” said Brent Burrows Vice President and Partner.  “I am so proud of the turnout and effort put in by our team members.  It is an incredible feeling knowing how many kids will be impacted by these backpacks.”

When we were finished we toured the Rainbow Room.  This is an emergency resource center to help case workers from Child Protective Services meet the needs of the children on their caseloads in times of crisis.  Every item is brand new and items distributed include: diapers, formula, shampoo, clothing, shoes and toys.

“I can’t think of a more worthwhile cause than providing this type of support for the youth of our communities,” said John Moberly, Vice President and Partner. “For some, like me, it brought back memories of when my family could not afford to buy school supplies for my sister and me.  We are very proud to be associated with Community Partners of Dallas and we’re looking forward to many more volunteer opportunities with them.”
