Consilium Staffing surpassed its goals last month in a recent blood drive with Carter BloodCare, and the two organizations are planning for repeat performances. On October 1st, Carter BloodCare challenged Consilium employees to give 18 pints of lifesaving blood donations and the Consilium staff responded with 25 pints instead.
"Our blood drive was such a success that Carter BloodCare wants to come by regularly," said Jamie Jones, Consilium's blood-drive coordinator who served as Carter BloodCare's liaison on the project. "I'm glad I had the opportunity to represent Consilium during this event and look forward to doing it again soon."
According to Carter BloodCare, the non-profit community blood center requires 1,100 blood donations daily to keep up with the needs of hospitals for their patients. Whole blood has a shelf life of 42 days, but is usually distributed before then. Daily, 600 to 800 patients in the Carter BloodCare service area need blood transfusions. This is why giving blood often (every 56 days for whole blood) is important. Each donation can help three people, which means Consilium's blood collections helped 75 individuals. On any given day, about 38 percent of the population is eligible to give blood; less than four percent is doing it. Forty percent of Consilium's employees participated in the company blood drive – a remarkable accomplishment.
"The team from Carter BloodCare was great to work with, and I am proud of the people of Consilium for stepping up to exceed our donation goal," said Consilium Executive Vice President Matt Baade. "This event was another in our Consilium Cares program, a program which exemplifies our commitment to serving our community. We are proud of what we do within the locum tenens industry as a business, but continuously strive to do and be more than just a locum tenens staffing company. Consilium Cares, and this partnership with Carter BloodCare, furthers that ambition."
