Lengthy Recruitment for Niche Specialty
Explorations Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) struggled to find a full-time, on-site child and adolescent psychiatrist. After a fruitless perm search, leadership had to pivot their search or divert at least 12 referrals.
The PHP hosts up to 35 students with stays lasting between 2 and 20 weeks.
Since Explorations couldn’t find a permanent child and adolescent psychiatrist, diverted students would receive less specialized care at local community health centers.
Additionally, the PHP risked ongoing revenue losses and delaying program expansion plans.
The weight of that reality drove Explorations’ leadership to change its recruitment approach.
From Temporary Coverage to Long-Term Support
Partnering with Consilium for locum tenens coverage allowed Explorations to continue serving students. They could also move forward with expanding the program to meet growing community demand.
Although Consilium has placed several locum child and adolescent psychiatrists with the program over 10 years, one provider has remained with Explorations for the past five years.
Dr. Grace is so much more than temporary coverage for Explorations PHP. She began her first locum contract with the program in 2021 and has truly become part of their team.
Seeing students ages 5 to 18, Dr. Grace protects up to 30 students each week from being diverted to other facilities.
As an ongoing locum psychiatrist, she has supported students and staff as the program capacity has grown 17% since 2022.
