Unexpected Provider Loss Creates Urgent Staffing Crisis
UMass Memorial Health – Harrington’s Urgent Care Express experienced the sudden and unexpected death of one of our full-time providers. Their team not only faced the grief and shock of this loss but also quickly became overwhelmed by the increased patient volume.
This loss left three full days each week without coverage, placing them at risk for closure on those days.
Closing that frequently would have negatively impacted the 60-90 patients they see daily, swamped the local emergency rooms unnecessarily, and financially strained their staff.
Locum Provider Restores Continuity of Care and Team Stability
Within eight weeks, Consilium placed a highly competent and professional Family Nurse Practitioner on-site. She quickly filled the three weekly shifts and was available for last-minute coverage needs, such as staff calling out sick.
During her three months with Harrington Urgent Care Express, she not only performed her duties exceptionally well but was also a joy to work with. She easily fit in with their team, and their patients regularly shared positive feedback about their care.
By the end of her contract, the Oxford urgent care had found a full-time provider. However, that candidate unexpectedly fell through, and they turned to Consilium once again.
Consilium successfully negotiated for the initial locum provider to return. She resumed her role promptly, signing on for an additional three months. This timeline allowed Harrington Urgent Care Express to secure a permanent full-time provider without overwhelming their existing staff.
