In an inspiring display of community and culinary talent, Consilium recently hosted its annual 7 C’s Chili Cook-Off in support of Cook Children’s Medical Center, located in Fort Worth, Texas. This spirited event aimed to raise funds and awareness for the hospital’s Hematology/Oncology Department Emergency Fund, which offers critical support to families dealing with the challenges of childhood cancer.

Held during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the cook-off brought together the Consilium family—chefs, bakers, organizers, and tasters—around a shared goal: raising $2,000 to benefit the families at Cook Children’s. Through generous contributions and enthusiastic ticket sales, Consilium hit its fundraising goal, presenting a $2,000 donation to the department. Kimberly McGinnis, VP at the Cook Children’s Health Foundation, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you for helping us keep patient families comfortable during their stay and for making it possible for us to fulfill our promise to do everything for the child.”

The event was a resounding success, not only financially but also in fostering team spirit and community engagement. Nineteen chili chefs and six cornbread bakers presented a variety of unique recipes, from traditional Texas chili to flavorful white and venison chilis. For many, the cook-off has become a highlight of the Consilium calendar. One attendee summed up the experience, saying, “Food is a love language in my family, and being able to share it with people for such a meaningful cause is deeply enriching.”

Cook Children’s Fort Worth, renowned for its specialized pediatric care, plays a vital role in providing treatment and hope for young patients facing life-threatening illnesses. The hospital’s Hematology and Oncology Center is dedicated to advancing research and offering innovative treatments to children and adolescents battling cancer and blood disorders. This event’s contribution directly supports the hospital’s efforts to alleviate the emotional and financial strain of patient families facing medical crises.

In the U.S., cancer remains the leading cause of death by disease for children. This year alone, the National Cancer Institute estimates that nearly 14,910 children and adolescents will be diagnosed with cancer, with 1,590 losing their lives. Events like Consilium’s chili cook-off not only raise funds but also spread awareness and create solidarity among local organizations supporting children and families in need.
