At Consilium, we focus exclusively on locum tenens staffing – meaning we understand locum life better than anyone else. But what do healthcare providers think about working with us?
We spoke with NP Ebony Thyme and Consilium Partner Brett Strong to learn more about how they built their provider-recruiter relationship and why working with an agency that “gets it” can make all the difference.
How it started
When Thyme graduated from her nurse practitioner program in 2018, she wasn’t sure where she wanted to end up. But she did know one thing for sure. She wanted to make enough money to afford a home for herself and her father, who she calls her biggest supporter.
With that motivation, she decided to work as a travel RN for one year. She absolutely loved it.
When that year was up, she got a more traditional 9 to 5 job and wound up feeling disillusioned. The pay wasn’t great, she was seeing up to 35 patients per day, denied time off to spend with her family, and ultimately burned out.
Tired of the inflexible schedule, she decided to try a different direction. In 2019, Ebony got in touch with then recruiter, Brett Strong.
“I had been with Consilium for five years when I met Ebony,” Strong shares, “we hit it off almost immediately.”
For Thyme, the timing couldn’t have been better. Ebony expressed that she loves working with recruiters who check in and take the time to build a real friendship, saying “It’s a mutual thing.”
“We prioritize building strong connections with our providers,” Strong shares. “Our goal is to establish a personal understanding of each person so that we can offer opportunities that align best with their needs.”
How it’s going
Today, Ebony works locum tenens jobs full-time, working where she wants, when she wants, and earns on her terms. She’s passionate about helping other healthcare professionals navigate independent contracting, and has built a thriving consulting business doing just that.

When asked what providers should know about working with Consilium, Strong said,
“I believe it’s crucial for providers to understand that Consilium values transparency and honesty in our relationships with them. Our teams diligently seek out suitable opportunities and ensure constant communication with providers, keeping them informed every step of the way.”
Thyme has seen this transparency and honesty in action, saying, “I worked with Consilium for my very first locum job, and they were phenomenal. My recruiter took the time to build a relationship with me and really cares about my career.”
